How Finimize Business Partners Stay Compliant When Using Our Content

Since we launched Finimize for Business, through which financial services firms can licence our content for their own platforms  or work with us to create custom content, a key question we’ve helped partners solve is how to proactively engage their compliance teams, anticipate their questions and avoid problems later down the line.

It all starts with informative, unbiased content

The Finimize mission is to  educate and empower people to make more informed investment decisions. So our content is unbiased by design. It’s not about persuading readers to invest in one stock or another, but delivering the most engaging and informative financial content out there.

Our community trusts us to do that. And when a partner publishes our content, they can rely on the fact that the content doesn’t have any agenda. Partners believe it’s important their audience feels like the content they’re consuming is independent. That’s why many of them let their readers know that the content on their platforms is produced by a trusted, independent, third party.

Zooming in, we work to be compliant with principles including the Financial Conduct Authority’s Market Abuse Regulation. But as we’ve never set out to influence investors’ decisions, staying compliant comes naturally.

We always make sure our readers have the full picture. For example, a statement on valuation would always be given in context. Finimize won’t say “this stock is cheap”; we might say “investors have argued this stock looks cheap relative to its own history, based on its forward price-to-earnings ratio” and explain why. Similarly, we always flag downside risks alongside potential opportunities and never make predictions or recommendations. All our content is based on publicly available data and our analysts’ own research, and contains relevant disclosures.

We don’t give any content to partners that we wouldn’t publish ourselves.

In practice: Finimize Select

Through Finimize Select, you can licence the content we create for our community for your own audience to distribute via your own channels.

You’re free to change and use our content as you see fit. In that case, you may want to double-check any changes are signed-off by your compliance team before publishing.

In practice: Finimize Custom

Through Finimize Custom, we work with you to produce bespoke content for your audience or specific groups within it. Here, we look to involve your compliance team from the very start. We’ve learned from experience that failing to align with compliance early on can create the biggest blockers down the line, so we aim to involve your compliance teams at every review stage.

Before we put pen to paper, we’ll align on your relevant risk disclosures and no-go areas, such as mentioning individual securities, countries or industries (we’ll also speak to your editorial and marketing teams and take any cues on your tone of voice). Then when it comes to producing the pieces, we’ll share a detailed outline of what we’re planning to write so the compliance teams can weigh in and course-correct before we start writing in earnest.

And to help your content be both compliant and commercial, we’ll also review any major edits your compliance team proposes.
